Impact Resistance of Fibre Reinforced Composite Railway Freight Tank Wagons

چکیده

The use of fibre reinforced composite materials is one method by which the lightweighting rail vehicles can be achieved. However, issue impact damage, amongst other challenges, limits their safety certification. This accentuated high levels loading a vehicle may subjected to during service. paper addresses significance pre-tension on large structures, specifically for redesign pressure vessel freight tank wagon. Preloading was determined detrimental overall resistance vessel. At 15.71 J energy, there 22% increase in mean absorbed energy uniaxially loaded panel over an unloaded panel. only 4% difference penetration depth between uniaxial and biaxial loading. A novel finding from these results that effects preloading are more profound if does not act parallel principal direction. Matrix cracking delaminations most common failure modes observed specimens under low-velocity intensified preload.

On the dynamics of European two–axle railway freight wagons

The design of European two–axle freight wagons can be traced back to the 1890’es. It has been and still is widely used in Europe because it is simple, rugged and cheap in price and maintenance. The internationally approved suspension for two–axle freight wagons in Europe is known as the UIC standard suspension (see Fig. 1). Each wagon has four of these suspensions. They consist of a leaf spring...

Machining of Fibre Reinforced Plastic Composite Materials

Fibre reinforced plastic composite materials are difficult to machine because of the anisotropy and inhomogeneity characterizing their microstructure and the abrasiveness of their reinforcement components. During machining, very rapid cutting tool wear development is experienced, and surface integrity damage is often produced in the machined parts. An accurate selection of the proper tool and m...

Scheduling railway freight cars

It is dif®cult to allocate the freight cars and to determine how to load the several varieties of goods into them. In order to improve ef®ciency, a knowledge-based system (KBS) is developed and integrated into the existing railway information system. This paper introduces the development of the system and the framework in which the KBS are integrated into the existing system environments. Under...

Flexural and Impact Properties of Stainless Steel based Glass Fibre Reinforced Fibre Metal Laminate under Hygrothermal Conditioning

Fibre metal laminates (FMLs) have appeared as the most suitable materials for shipbuilding, aeronautical and aerospace applications due to their superior mechanical properties over traditional materials. In this paper, degradation in flexural and impact properties of glass fibre/epoxy composite (GF/E composite) and stainless steel glass fibre/epoxy fibre metal laminate (SS FML) due to hygrother...

Fatigue Damage Modelling of Fibre-reinforced Composite Materials: Review

This paper presents a review of the major fatigue models and life time prediction methodologies for fibrereinforced polymer composites, subjected to fatigue loadings. In this review, the fatigue models have been classified in three major categories: fatigue life models, which do not take into account the actual degradation mechanisms but use S-N curves or Goodman-type diagrams and introduce som...
